Teondra Lyles presented an awesome interactive program at our Spencer Place Assisted Living Program. Our residents enjoyed her originals and familiar tunes sang and powerful piano playing. Residents released stress through bubble activities, relaxation exercises, toe-tapping and singing! "Mrs. Tena's lively sing-a-longs welled up memories deep within. ... I was most impressed by one resident who does little more than sit on "her" couch, wrapped in "her" blanket, with "her" baby. "Mrs. Tena" reached and touched her heart. The response was beautiful. I believe that her expertise skill, overshadowed by her heart for people, could definitely be powerful at reaching those suffering with dementia.
Meg Kroesen Activity Director Spencer Place Assisted Living St. Peters, MO. 63376 As a young girl my mother took my siblings and I to nursing homes to sing and merely bring joy to those longing for their loved ones. Older adults enjoy music and movement because it increases their interaction with one another and allows their individual creativity to be expressed. Playing games and exercising to gentle music promotes physical mobility and mental stability. Providing words of encouragement and a warm smile helps to meet their emotional needs. Every older adult wants to feel healthy and loved. Teondra D. Lyles Director [email protected] |
